I’ve seen it many times: friends who marry a problematic girlfriend and end up with miserable lives. The weird part is that everyone saw how the girl was nowhere near “marriage material.” I don’t even know how the marriage came to be. Either way, I’ve compiled a list of signs that allow you to tell if it’s time to break up with your girlfriend to save you from living miserably.
She criticizes you
Yes, I know no one is perfect, and we could all benefit from constructive criticism, you know, the one that is given without making you feel like trash. However, if your girlfriend is criticizing your every movement, and even worse, ridiculing you in front of others, it’s time for her to go. Why spend time with someone who is obviously not happy with whom you are? Break up with your girlfriend and go and find someone who loves you and your personality.
She has no manners
There are some manners that are just plain common sense, such as saying “hi” to a person that just entered the room, especially if that person is a friend or acquaintance. If your girlfriend doesn’t even have the common courtesy to greet your friends or family, is either because she hates them, or because she thinks she is too cool for them. Either one of those reasons are signs she is self-centered. This brings me to point number 3…
She is self-centered
Your girlfriend only thinks about her, and you appear in the picture only when she needs you to fulfill one of her desires. For example, you can only go to a party if it’s a party she likes, you can only watch a movie together if she approves it and you can only talk to the friends she likes. Run! She wants you to lose your personality and live like a desire-fulfilling robot.
She doesn’t know how to communicate
We’ve all heard this one: communication is the foundation to a good relationship. Even though this saying may be trite, it is completely true. Relationships can’t work if there’s no communication, and by communication I mean a dialogue, not a monologue. If your girlfriend is the only one that gets to talk whenever an argument arises, run for your life! That means she is not interested in what you have to say and, probably, will never be.
She is controlling
If everything has to be to her way or the highway, beware! This type of girl will completely devoid you of your personality and happiness.
She lies
No one likes a liar, especially when dating. Lies only bring doubts to a relationship, and who wants to constantly be doubting whether your significant other is telling you the truth or not?
She flirts with other guys
I don’t think I need to explain this one…
She has cheated on you
Same as above, no explanation needed. I guess after the first cheat, it requires a lot of faith to believe your girlfriend won’t do it again. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just very unlikely.
She compares you with other guys
If your girlfriend is always comparing you, why is she with you in the first place? Plus, who likes to be constantly hearing others are better? This is a definite sign that you need to get away as soon as possible.
If you are considering marrying your girlfriend, make sure she doesn’t have any of these characteristics. Or at least make sure you won’t mind living with these bad traits for a long, long time. If you know you can’t, break up with your girlfriend and go find a better future
